deviantART Hear our Complaints!
Really deviantART?
While we understand that you may always try to fool us with the deviantART loves you, but there is a limit. Yes we appreciate the website that you have created and the brilliant or so volunteers and staff that are involved in this. Yes we are getting it free! But don't you think as members we shouldn't have to complain about everything that you do?
We very well know that all you want is money. After all it's not as if it's Red Bubble or Flickr or some brilliant group concentrated maybe solely for serious artists and/or art enthusiasts and don't tame us to be your beloved, mindless slaves with things such as llamas, pageviews or the points
Yes you have mindless (some with sense) worshippers who will white knight you know matter what and those that still love you even if you do mistakes.
Just because some of us don't like the way certain things you do, doesn't mean we are trying to hate on you. We care, that's why we have to sometimes do some acts to get your attention.
It might be that it's April 1st today and that it's a joke, but please look back at yourself and see what you have become, even if there's a chance this message will just completely be ignored or worse, be deemed as a April 1st joke.
Thank you!
Sincerely yours,
`phoenixleo
P.S. Thanks to all my friends for the courage they have given me to do this!

This is a general summarized version of for both sides as a discussion thought. How systems could be improved were/are being given by a lot of others (even if mine isn't given here) in other places. #communityops might be a good place to start to see some suggestions (the recent blog). Or ask those who do have ideas (You can ask some who have commented here below)
Sorry if I sound lazy and can't link all places I have seen things, but yes, they are there
Balances are ideal! But sometimes unfeasible. Economy, economy...
I'm starting to think this is like running the U.S. Everyone can find something to love or hate.
It achieved its success in opening the discussion again AND at the same time you can't be made responsible for that, because it was just a prank.
It's like telling *prosaix on April 1st that he (excuse me: she) is fat and then say it was only a joke. We would still know that *prosaix really is fat. Right?
how a joke will be taken. It's not in the joke. Among anyone's
personal group of social associates there are jokes you can
tell some that you just can't tell others. When you are
telling a joke to 10's of millions of people you have an adult
responsibility to consider it's potential impact on ALL of them. It
does you no good to say after the fact, "Well, some don't have
a sense of humor". It's just poor business practice to take the
chance of alienating some customers you haven't completely won
while pleasing some customers you already have, It's plain
nonsense. We are no longer in the school yard where you please
your friends by picking on the same people all the time. Even if
we don't want to move beyond that, the circumstances have
changed beyond that and it wont work here anymore.
This brings me to the second point; "That DA is interested only in money".
It would be a good thing for all of us if they really were, but they are not.
We often, in despair, hope that they are because that would tend to
make them explainable and negotiable on some level. As indicated by
the lame business practice of alienating some large portion of their
population around many issue, they are not interested only in money.
What they are interested in may never be explained. But if you really
want to know - It might help to start by asking 11 year old children. I
make no guarantees you will get answers but my guess is as good as
yours. Now, 11 yr old's are great people too but I never heard a fair
argument for why they should act like 30 year old's.
The Third most potent criticism is the mention of the "White Knights and
mindless worshipers". This is the biggest problem that Deviant Art has.
Again it puts us back in the school yard where if you don't pal up with the
right people you're screwed. That ruins organizations like this. I have heard
so many arguments for integrity and the willingness people should have to
accept criticism but nobody minds if friends just dump faves on their friends
because their friends. - and DA has a lot of informal representation on
their network and that fact alone is responsible for a lot of the trolling and
animus you find almost everywhere you look. Why is it informal? Because
it allows them to deal with you and your issues without taking personal
corporate responsibility for what is said to you. DA wants to build an
infrastructure that will attract people and then take NO responsibility
for what happens here when they arrive, except for what suits them
personally. "Build a field and they will come". And they may find a nest
of rattle snakes at home plate if there is no more care than that.
What we all really call DA is a Group of almost Magical people many with
world class talent, but all interested and interesting and valuable to each
other. It's the people you meet here and love, and the art that you share
and learn from, that makes DA. If you have people on DA who you love,
than that is the real power that they have with you not the building we
all gather in. Those bonds glue us together and allow DA to reek havoc
that they would not otherwise dare. Not the bells and the whistles their
software provides. It's not just the software and certainly not the customer
service who thinks it's cool to be obnoxious cause it's "modern".
We customers should bring our expectations about how we should be
treated with us because WE are also DA and we are not this adolescent
tyranny that controls not just this website, but our supportive relationships
with each other. We deserve the benefits of good leadership and to be
placed in a position where we have to demand it, is an unfair imposition
THAT THEY PLACE ON US.
Oh, and never let them tell you to "go somewhere else if you don't like it
here". As I said, you ARE, "here", ( and they're saying the same thing
everywhere else anyway). Stand your ground. Consider that you are
standing on the same ground that a coward stood before you got here
and you can stop the cycle by staying. Don't worry about the mindless
followers. They will always be with us no matter what is going on and you
will also find them in line to help gather up the benefits our disposition
earns for them, as well as us, while they gain corrupt advantage for trying
to undermine the truth throughout our struggle.
